Pressure Canner Gauge Testing
For safety's sake, all pressure canner gauges should be tested at least once a year.
The UAF Cooperative Extension Service offers free pressure canner gauge testing.
The bacterium, Clostridium botulinum, can survive and grow inside a sealed jar of food producing a poisonous toxin. Even a taste of food containing this toxin can be fatal. One way to prevent food spoilage is to make certain that the gauge of the pressure canner is accurate when home canning.
Stop by 1108 F Street Suite 213 in the Bill Ray Center downtown or call 796-6221.
