Late runs prompt closure of some Kodiak fisheries

KODIAK - State officials are closing or restricting several sport fisheries in the Kodiak area because of late salmon runs.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game says restriction go into effect Monday.

Among the areas affected are the Buskin River sockeye salmon and the Karluk River king salmon sport fisheries.

The Ayakulik River king salmon sport fishery also will be restricted to catch-and-release only through late July, and no bait will be allowed.

State and federal subsistence fisheries in the Karluk drainage, including the lagoon, also will be closed.
