Basin Road fire intentionally set, fire marshal says

Damage to 2 buildings estimated at $400,000

The June 1 fire that damaged an apartment building and destroyed a nearby family's home on Basin Road was set intentionally, Capital City Fire and Rescue reported Monday.

"After an initial investigation and numerous interviews were conducted, it is determined that this fire was intentionally set," Fire Marshal Dan Jager wrote in a brief statement released Monday.

The release did not identify any possible suspects. Jager could not be reached for further comment.

The fire began in an apartment building's ground level laundry room at 811 Basin Road. It spread next door to the home of Ryan Stanley, wife Laura Hosey and daughter Meadow. Nobody was injured.

Stanley said he had heard noises, discovered the fire around 1 a.m., then roused his family and neighbors and called 911.

Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to reports of the fire around 1:10 a.m.

Jager estimated $100,000 in damage to the apartment building where the fire started and $300,000 for Stanley and Hosey's home. Both structures were insured.
