Dog days of summer are back

Warm weather, close games and surprising scores highlight season's opening week around the league

It was almost balmy last week!! Perfect softball weather, and if you weren't playing, you should be re-thinking that decision.

As usual, there were lots of unexpected surprises, and a lot more really close games...

Men's C Division

Taku Oil stands alone at the top with wins over TimberWolf and Team Imperial. Parts Plus split a pair, losing to Team Imperial 15-7 before coming back to beat TimberWolf.

Men's D Division

Southeast Mine Supply and Northern Lights Development are neck-and-neck at the top of the standings, with both teams sitting at 2-0. The Miners thumped Pavitts 22-6 and Dirty Dozen 23-8. Northern Lights shut down the Rounders 20-8, but the Rounders came back to beat Pavitts 21-13.

Men's E Division

The old guys, Island Pub, and Kapplers Computers are battling for this division lead after the first week. Both squads sit at 2-0 after The Pub team from Douglas took out Play it Again Sports 18-5, and then knocked down Home Depot 15-1. Earlier, Gas N' Go was edged by the Home Depot 15-14.

Men's F Division

The UAS Flukes and the First National Capitals both finished the opening week undefeated, as the Caps took a pair from Double Ugly 22-11 and Perseverance/Pak's 47-4. Ouch!! The ACOA Mudstingers were edged out by 10 Right Fielders 16-15.

Women's C Division

Pat's Douglas Inn (Louie's) and Imperial stand at the top of the standings, both at 2-0. Pat's slipped past Alaska Litho 13-10 and Lynden 16-11. Sticks N Stones got thumped by Imperial 12-5 and by Alaska Litho 16-7, but better days are coming!

Women's D Division

Merchant's Wharf and Chicks with Sticks are at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the first week, with identical 2-0 records. The Parts Plus Ladies walloped AEG Staffing 13-3, but then the Chicks handed them a 12-6 loss. HECLA's Angels lost to Mendenhall Mall 9-4 and were routed by the Chicks with Sticks 22-1.

Team Miller Lite, the preseason favorite, jumped out to a 2-0 record with wins over Southeast Waffle House and the Wee Fishie Shoppe, while Nizich Dental was edged by Drunkateers 9-6.

Coed E Division

Auke Bay Electric, Valley Liquor Crown Royals and the Hooliguns all had a perfect 1-0 start to the season. GCI Party Fouls was barely edged out by Auke Bay Electric, while Cliff Beadle's State Farm lost a pair.

Coed F North Division

In the North part of the Division, Brain Pain started off undefeated at 2-0. Foodland wiggled past the Killer Bees 12-11, and then left the tying run at third, after scoring four runs with two outs, to lose to HAZ GAS 15-14. Both the Pavitt Piranhas and Bartlett Too are still looking for their first wins, as Bartlett Too got edged by Brain Pain 8-7, and Brain Pain beat Pavitt 19-8.

Coed F South Division

In the biggest of the divisions, four of the teams are undefeated, four have not won and one team is 1-1. T & ★ Mad Batters took it to Trusted Choice 16-4 and Alaska Towing 15-3. Reliable Oil slipped past Team America 18-17 and Trusted Choice evened their record at 1-1 with a 15-6 win over ERM Adder Ups. Off the Cuff played well to get past the Bartlett Bruisers 8-5.

The Labor Party, Local 52 Terminators, leaped out of the gate with a 2-0 record, beating SeaBreeze and the Red Headed Step Children. AWARE edged the Attractive Nuisance, 13-12, and lost a squeaker to the Red Heads, 10-9. MRT Slammers also edged out the Attractive Nuisance, 15-11.
