Thursday, May 7

• Ladies golf season opens - The LowTide Ladies Golf Association will start its season with a shotgun start at 6 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course. Organizers are looking for women interested in playing golf. No prior experience is necessary to participate. Clubs and carts can be rented at the course. Participants will play every Thursday at 6 p.m. through August 20. Golfers should contact the course if weather is questionable. Saturday, May 9

• Bike Rodeo - The Safe Routes to School Program will host a bike rodeo in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bike safety inspections will be available, along with optional quick tune-ups. A breif safety lecture will follow. The event is geared toward students in kindergarten through eighth grade but open to the public. For more information, contact Michelle at 465-8487.

Wednesday, May 20

• Free fly casting lessons - Representatives from Juneau Fly Fishing Goods, Raincountry Flyfishers and Trout Unlimited will be at Twin Lakes starting at 6 p.m. to provide free fly casting lessons, and an opportunity to demo fly rods. All fly fishers, and anyone interested in fly fishing is invited. For more information, please contact Tony Soltys at 789-9159.

June 11-16

• Crimson Bears Youth Football Camp - The Juneau-Douglas High School Crimson Bears Youth Football Camp will run from June 11-16, with Sunday off, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early drop off begins at 8 a.m. Cost is $95 per camper or $115 with early drop off at the football field behind Floyd Dryden. Participants will also receive a t-shirt. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-12. No football experience is necessary. Registration is limited to the first 80 registrants. • Elite spring cleaning - The Juneau Cheer Club is offering cleaning services for your driveways and yards. All jobs big or small deserve a call. Services will be offered throughout the spring during weekends and after-school hours. For more information contact Monica Casipit at 790-3099.

• Juneau Cheer Club offers elite snow removal - As long as there is snow, the Juneau Cheer Club will offer elite snow removal anywhere in Juneau from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. These hard-working young athletes are trying to raise money for uniforms and competition travel. Info: Monica Casipit, 790-3099.

• Classic Women's Soccer - Classic Women's Soccer is held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays and began on Jan. 9. There will be 14 games. Cost is $49. Bring a light and dark shirt. Coed Masters Soccer is 7:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays and began Jan. 9. There will be 14 games. Cost is $49. Male players must be over 30 years of age. Bring a light and dark shirt. Open soccer is 9 to 10 p.m. Tuesday nights and began Jan. 6. Cost is $4. New this winter is Competitive Coed Soccer, held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday nights and began Jan. 10. There will be eight games, and games may be added if enough players register to cover costs. Cost is $35. This will be run in the same format as Coed Masters. It will be played in a pick-up format. • Youth referees needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is looking for referees for the upcoming youth basketball season. If you have any knowledge of the game of basketball, or have any experience playing or reffing, we would love to have your help. You will get paid for each game you referee. • Adult soccer - Men's and women's competitive indoor soccer league at the Dimond Park Fieldhouse. Open adult soccer is Tuesday nights, 9-10 p.m. Cost is $4. Classic Women and Coed Masters also are ongoing, Friday nights until April 24. Cost is $49. • Juneau Skating Club - The Juneau Skating Club's final session of the year begins March 6. Classes meet one time per week for six weeks. Group lessons meet either Friday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday mornings from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Hockey skills classes start at 10:30 a.m. March 8. • Mount Jumbo Gym pre-school open gym - Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult, at a maximum ratio of four children to one adult. Play equipment and tumbling mats available. This program is open to parents or caregivers of youth age 1-6, Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m.-noon. Bring clean dry shoes and a snack. Closed on all city holidays. • Tuesday Night Best Ball Golf League - The Mendenhall Golf Course will host the Tuesday Night Best Ball Golf League beginning May 5 and running through September. The league is a fun golf night for men and women of all golfing skill levels. Each Tuesday every person is randomly selected to form a team to play a best-ball format. Players pay green fees and a $5 weekly entry fee. Prizes will be awarded at season's end. Register at the course, or just join us on any Tuesday night. Start time is 6 p.m. Come out, enjoy the game and meet other golfers. For more information, contact Mike Strasser at 463-1252.

• Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School court rentals - Community Schools has court rental times available, starting at 9 a.m., on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Cost is $20 per hour, per court, which must be paid at the time of rental. Info: 780-2075.

• Open gyms - Community Schools is offering open gyms from 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays at Thunder Mountain High School. Cost is $3 per person. Participants are asked to bring their own balls. For more information, call 780-2073.

• Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19 and older. Participants must be able to swim crawl stroke and backstroke. Info: Augustus Brown swim pool, 586-5325.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Rec Hikes Hotline. Bring plenty of food and water, and wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Info: Hotline, 586-0428.

• Mount Jumbo Gym rentals - Parks and Recreation is accepting reservations for rentals of the Mount Jumbo Gym. The gym is open for rental from until Dec. 30. Rentals can be made noon-1 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays and noon-10 p.m. Sundays. Cost is $30 per hour. Terry Miller gym also is available for rent. Info: 586-5226.

• Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
