The Crimson Bears (8-5-1) outshot the Kardinals 13-2, but Kenai Central walked away with a 2-0 victory. JDHS has dropped four of its last five contests.

"We didn't finish, obviously, and we had lots of chances," Crimson Bears coach Gary Lehnhart said. "We must have had 14-15 chances and a number of them were point blank. We're really out of sync."

After a scoreless first half, JDHS was awarded a penalty kick moments into the second half.

The Crimson Bears missed the shot and Kenai responded with a goal to go up 1-0.

"We had numerous chances after that," Lehnhart said. "I was pleased because the boys kept their heads up. We held the ball, pressed them and then their goalkeeper would get it and kick it 60 yards down the field and we'd have to do it again."

Kenai Central added an insurance tally late in the second half as a Juneau-Douglas defensive miscue translated into an own goal.

While five losses is unusual for the Crimson Bears, Lehnhart wants his team stay upbeat and try to turn things around.

"You have to step back from this and see the bigger picture," Lehnhart said. "You have to see it for what it is. It's a bad stretch."

JDHS takes on Colony today and then Wasilla on Friday.

Next weekend, the Crimson Bears travel to Ketchikan for two games. Either one win or a tie will seal a berth in the state tournament.

"There's still a lot of soccer left," Lehnhart said. "If you start thinking about whose fault it is or woe is me, why is this happening to us, it doesn't get you anywhere. It is what it is. It's a rough stretch. I'm confident we'll work our way out of it.

"I told them afterwards that we have the resources and the capability to solve this. That's a pretty big positive."
