Eligibility, participation and duration

1. Any person who has not been disqualified from participating in a previous derby may participate in the derby.

2. Participation occurs when an entry ticket is purchased and validated, as provided in these rules.

3. All participants must possess a 2009 Alaska sport fishing license and required stamps.

4. All Alaska Department of Fish & Game sports fishing rules apply.

5. The derby shall commence at 12:01 a.m. May 1 and close at 9 p.m. May 31.

6. Fish may be entered at the weigh-in stations only during times specified below.

7. Participants may fish from a boat (downriggers are permitted) or from shore.

8. Non-derby participants are prohibited from fishing off the same boat. However, one may go along for the boat ride to enjoy time with family & friends.

9. Fish caught by a "proxy" may not be entered.

10. Any person caught breaking the rules, or disqualified for any reason decided by the Derby Committee, will be ineligible to participate for two years plus the year the participant was disqualified.

Entry fee and tickets

1. Each participant, regardless of age, must possess an entry ticket prior to the time fishing occurs. Only ticket holders are eligible for prizes.

2. Entry tickets become valid when the ticket is paid for, countersigned by the selling agent, and the date and time of purchase is stated on the ticket.

3. A ticket, once validated, remains valid for the duration of the derby.

Donated fish:

The Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program gladly accepts fish for donation. These fish will be provided to elders and handicapped individuals. Additionally, the Juneau Raptor Center requests your fish heads - please call 586-8393 for more information. Thank you for your consideration.

Prizes and taxes:

1. The Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program will not be responsible for any prizes donated by merchants who do not give as pledged or if any prizes prove to be less valuable than shown in the donor's estimates. The values shown for prizes listed are set by the donors.

2. Taxes for prizes are the responsibility of the individual winners. Cash prize winners will be asked to provide their taxpayer identification number for this purpose.

3. Prizes are final; no exchanges.

4. Prizes shall be awarded in numerical order, according to winner's place. In the case of a tie, the earliest entered weighed fish will receive the higher standing.

Eligible fish requirements:

1. Only gutted, gilled, fresh, unfrozen king salmon may be entered.

2. Fish must be entered at an authorized weigh-in station.

• The participant's entry ticket must be presented with the fish the participant seeks to enter in the derby.

• Weigh-in station personnel will complete a Spring King Derby weigh-in ticket for participants entering fish for prize entry. Information includes the weight of the fish, date and time it was entered and the entry ticket number of the participant.

3. Participants may enter more than one fish in the derby, but only the largest fish will be eligible for a prize.

4. Prizes will be awarded solely on the basis of the weight of entered fish.

5. Entered fish remain the property of the participant.

6. All entered fish must be taken in a manner, location, and time permitted by applicable sport fishing regulations and these derby rules.

7. Any person who has a reasonable belief that a fish submitted for entry was not taken in a manner which complies with applicable law or derby rules may notify the Spring King Derby officials by calling 463-7133.

NOTE: All rules and regulations of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game apply.

Reporting regulation violations:

1. Upon notification, the officials may hold a hearing to determine whether the fish was caught in the manner required by these rules.

2. If a hearing is held, the participant submitting the fish for entry shall be given reasonable notice of the hearing and an opportunity to appear and give testimony.

3. At the conclusion of the hearing, the officials shall render a written decision which shall be final and binding on the participant.
