Gov. Palin defends comment on bridge
KETCHIKAN - There is no "nowhere" in Alaska, according to Gov. Sarah Palin.
In a visit to Ketchikan, Palin defended her frequent touting of killing the "Bridge to Nowhere" during last fall's presidential campaign for the span long supported by city leaders.
She told local reporters, "That's the term that's been known."
Palin had backed the $223 million bridge linking Ketchikan to its airport on a neighboring island when she campaigned for governor.
But she axed the project and listed that among her fiscally conservative credentials while campaigning as John McCain's running mate. Only the earmark was killed as the state still received the money.
