Martin fires 35 for Huna's 79-60 win over Yakutat
Masters Bracket
Huna 79, Yakutat 60
Myron Martin stroked eight three-pointers on his way to a 35-point night for Huna. Martin came out firing in the first half and when Martin was not hitting from deep, Huna looked the ball into the paint for big man, Stuart Mills, who made his presence known with 12 points.
Martin and company had the fast break working all night and distanced themselves early in the game. Huna's Louis White and Bernard Wolfe dished numerous assists in the run and gun style of play, which led to Martin's big offensive output.
Greg Inderlan led Yakutat scorers with 14 points and Art Chappell had 12. Matt Wheeler and Jim Bremmer both added eight in the effort.
Klukwan 89, Sitka 78
Rob Hotch Larose continued to torch defenses at Gold Medal, ripping off 36 points against Sitka. Joe Parnell was Klukwan's emotional lift, scoring 20 of his 27 points in the second half.
Early in the game, Sitka built a double-digit lead against Klukwan but the Chilkats fought back and ended the first half with a two-point advantage. Frustrated by Klukwan's performance, Parnell became a rebounding madman and even went coast to coast, spinning and dribbling between the legs before finishing between defenders.
Sitka's Ron Hansen led with 25 points. Teammate Steve Edenshaw scored 15, all on three-pointers. Ned Chapman added 14 points.
B Bracket
Haines 79, Yakutat 71
Andrew Friske calmly stepped up the offense for Haines in the early moments of the second half to stave off any of Yakutat's hopes for a late comeback. Friske finished with 19 points and stung Yakutat with four three-pointers.
Jimmy Jenson's game high 27 points and Kyle Dierick's 17 points could not get Yakutat in position to grab a lead against Haines.
Tyler Healy shouldered the scoring for Haines early with 15 of his 18 points coming in the first half. Haines guard Jason Shull used his skills and quickness to capitalize from Yakutat's foul troubles. Shull made eight of 10 as Haines scored 22 points at the free throw line.
