Health summit to take place in April

JUNEAU - An established Sitka event on community health and wellness is being replicated in Juneau on April 23-24 under the name, "Pulling Together for Health."

The first day of the Juneau Health Summit will feature a dinner with the keynote presentation by community health expert America Bracho, and an awards ceremony to honor those who contribute to Juneau's health and wellness.

The second day consists of a planning session to identify steps that can be taken in the next year to advance behavioral health, nutrition, physical activity and work site wellness.

Sponsors are the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, SEARHC's Steps to a Healthier Southeast Alaska program, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Bartlett Regional Hospital, CoastAlaska Public Radio, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, United Way of Southeast Alaska, and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 2.

The dinner, to be held at the Tlingit and Haida building at 3235 Hospital Drive, costs $10 per person or $25 per family. Friday participation is free. Tickets are available from sponsoring organizations, Hearthside Books or by contacting event coordinator Larry West at 586-4648 or larrywest@acsalaska.net.
