Southeast Alaska Master Gardener class offered through January

The Southeast Alaska Master Gardener Class will be taught Jan. 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22 and 25. The class will be taught at Floyd Dryden School in Room 200. Monday and Wednesday classes are from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class is sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.

The class costs $60 and students owe the Master Gardener program 40 hours of volunteer time once they have graduated from the class. To be considered for the class, potential students must have gardened at least two years in Southeast Alaska. The class will be taught by members of the Juneau Master Gardeners and by Jim Douglas, district Extension agent. The class teaches the science of gardening and local gardeners use that science to teach how to garden in our climate.

To sign up for the class, call CES at 465-8749. The class has room for 25 students and there are 10 people signed up at this time.
