Murkowski property stirs tax questions
Eric Engman / Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
Question of residency: Former Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski's rail car home is seen Friday on his property off Chena Pump Road in Fairbanks. In February, the former governor and his wife unsuccessfully applied for a property tax break - one available to residents who live in Fairbanks most of the year - for the property that accommodates no full-time home, only the converted rail car. After being denied, Murkowski told Fairbanks officials the qualifications for the tax break were "unclear."
