Remember when? (Michael Traux)

photo: thisweek

Memento - Bob Pavitt's emcee button.

"I was living in Juneau (in 1978) and the Chicken Ridge Rowdies were the only band in town at that time, and I was playing with them. I met Uncle Bob Pavitt and I went up to his office and sang him a song called 'The Dutchman' (by Mike Smith). He really liked it and suggested that I play at the folk festival. I went to it the year before, and thought I would never have the nerve to do that. Basically, Uncle Bob conned me into it.

"I remember being scared to death and playing way too fast. The nerves got a hold of me. And I've always compared playing on stage to backpacking. It feels really good when it's over."

- Michael Truax, has played in every festival since 1978
