On their application to play at this year's Alaska Folk Festival, Juneau's Odin Brudie and Bill Childers wrote that they would like to open someday for their daughters.

The festival schedule-makers have granted them their wish. Brudie and Childers will perform as Twin Fathers of Distinct Daughters at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial Hall. Fifteen minutes later, they will be followed by Aldyn Brudie and Charli Childers, who form Twice the Size of My Belly.

"It's their thing. Odin and I didn't put them up to it," Bill Childers said of the daughter act. "Opening for the girls is almost a dream come true for a dad. But it wasn't a request or anything."

Odin Brudie agrees.

"They did this one on their own," he said. "We're encouraging and helping them practice and working on the harmonyof one song."

When asked what inspired her to perform this year, Aldyn Brudie said her dad.

"I figured if he could do it, I could do it," she said.

The girls, both seventh-graders at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, have performed with their fathers at the folk festival before. One year they were their father's back-up dancers. But this year marks their first performance by themselves.

The girls met about six years ago, when they attended the Juneau Charter School. Aldyn Brudie plays the fiddle, and Charli Childers has picked up the guitar. Both girls sing.

Among the songs they plan to sing are Jewel's "I'm Sensitive," Nickel Creek's "The Hand Song" and the Dixie Chicks' "Wide Open Spaces."

For their set, Odin Brudie and Bill Childers are planning on playing a couple of instrumentals and possibly debuting some original songs.

The girls have wanted to perform "Wide Open Spaces" for quite some time.

"We're finally doing it," Aldyn Brudie said. "We've been talking about doing it for years."
