Cuban salsa dance workshop to be held Dec. 29 and 30

Visiting dance instructor Felix Bambury Webbe of Guatanamo, Cuba, will host a weekend Cuban salsa workshop at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.

There are two classes scheduled for each day on Saturday, Dec. 29, and Sunday, Dec. 30. Admission for adults is $10 per class, and for students is $8 per class.

On Saturday, "Cuban Salsa I" will be offered from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and "Cuban Salsa 2" will be offered from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, a Cuban salsa-rueda class will be offered from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and an Afro-Cuban dance class will be offered from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

'Mr. Marmalade' to open on Second Stage on Jan. 3

Perseverance Theatre's Second Stage presents "Mr. Marmalade," by Noah Haidle, beginning Thursday, Jan. 3. The play, directed by Jesse Young, will close Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Douglas Island theater.

All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and are pay-as-you-can performances. There are no shows on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the production.

Sarah Campen plays Lucy, a 4-year-old with a very active imagination in this dark comedy in which playtime and reality are no longer black and white. Lucas Hoiland plays Mr. Marmalade, Lucy's imaginary friend who is always late for tea. Josh Galbraith and Ben Brown round out the cast.

Juneau Dance Unlimited registration underway

Registration for the Winter-Spring 2008 semester classes at Juneau Dance Unlimited is underway. The semester begins Jan. 7 and runs through May 24.

Juneau Dance Unlimited offers a wide variety of classes for 3-year-olds through adults and all levels of ability. Classes include ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, pilates, studies in movement and creative movement.

The school's new studio is at 8420 Airport Blvd., Suite 202, and provides a spacious, professional environment for dance students.

The class schedule and registration forms are available at www.juneaudance.com. Class registrations can be faxed or mailed to the school's office.

Juneau Dance Unlimited is a nonprofit organization providing the community with dance instruction and performance opportunities throughout the year.

The school celebrates its 32nd anniversary this year.
