Lighthouse fundraiser concert slated for Dec. 22

A concert to benefit the Five Finger Lighthouse will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Northern Light United Church. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The event includes a dessert reception. Tickets cost $40 and are available at Hearthside Books.

Five Fingers Chamber Music is scheduled to perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Maria von Weber and Stefano Donaudy.

Soprano Gretchen Klein of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus will accompany Stephen Paulson, principle bassoon for the San Francisco Symphony, and Juneau performer and teacher Mary Watson on piano.

The Juneau Lighthouse Association is a nonprofit group dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the historic Five Finger Lighthouse, which was first lit on March 2, 1902.

Tlingit Christmas music to be performed Dec. 23

A musical ensemble from Glacier Valley Church of God will perform "A Christmas to Remember" at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at the church located at 8497 Thunder Mountain Road. Admission is free.

The ensemble, led by Nancy Murphy, includes some traditional carols performed in English with Native Alaskan drummers, as well as a Christmas carol sung in the Tlingit language.

The Children's Hand Bell Chorus also will perform.

The Christmas celebration includes some sing-along songs and is expected to last about an hour.
