Snowmobile film screening, party set for Dec. 20

Imperial Billiard & Bar will host a snow machine party and film screening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.

Along with prizes and giveaways, the professional snowmobile film "Slednecks 10," by Clayton Stassart and Chris Brown, will be featured. The film includes massive jumps, a groundbreaking freestyle competition, avalanche footage, backcountry riding and tricks. It was filmed in the United States, Canada and New Zealand.

Dance music will follow the film screening.

Last days in December offer dancing opportunities

For those who enjoy dancing, the waning days of December is a good time to move your feet.

• A Juneau contra dance with caller Odette Foster will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Capital School Gym.

• The Juneau Contras will hold a Saturday night barn dance, with caller Tom Paul, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 22, at St. Ann's Hall.

• The Juneau International Folkdancers will take to the dance floor between 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at the downtown JRC/The Alaska Club.

• For those who enjoy dance but not dancing, Tribal Fusion Bellydance features performances by Maren Thomas and Samia Savell from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Zephyr restaurant.

Free cabs from Safe Ride to be offered on New Year's Eve

The Juneau/Lynn Canal Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association will once again sponsor free cab rides on New Year's Eve.

The Safe Ride Program will be offered from 9 p.m. Dec. 31 until 3 a.m. Jan. 1. Ten van cabs have been reserved for the program this year.

Patrons can ask a bartender or server for a free cab from:

The program is co-sponsored by Alaskan Brewing Co., Alaskan Distributors, K and L Distributors, Capital City Weekly, Odom Corp. and Specialty Imports. The Alaska Highway Safety Office provided a grant for the program.
