Juneau Pride Chorus anniversary concert slated for Dec. 8

JUNEAU - The Juneau Pride Chorus will present a special 10th anniversary concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Northern Light United Church.

The program will include new music as well as other favorite pieces it has performed over the last decade. The program is under the direction of Leslie Wood and will include world music, jazz, gospel and contemporary music.

Among the new choral works are selections from "Menopause: The Musical" and a choral setting of the children's song "If You Love a Hippopotamus."

Founded in 1997, the Juneau Pride Chorus is sponsored by Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Juneau and is comprised of mothers, daughters, sisters, lovers and grandmothers.

Juneau Bach Society to perform holiday concert Dec. 9<P> JUNEAU - The Juneau Bach Society will perform the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the holiday season on Sunday, Dec. 9.

There will be two performances at Northern Light United Church, one at 3 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m.

Soprano Tiffany Hanson, alto Lisa Ray, tenor Derrick Grimes and bass David Miller will perform Bach's "Cantata No. 10 (German Magnificat)."

Soprano Patricia Hull, alto Lisa Ray, tenor Jay Query and bass Philippe Damerval will perform Mozart's "Vesperae solennes de confessore."

The pieces will be accompanied by an orchestra and about 35 Juneau singers.

The Bach Society has been performing for more than 10 years under the guidance of Bruce Simonson.

Tickets are available at Hearthside Books and at the door. They cost $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.

Singing Christmas Tree choir back after year hiatus

JUNEAU - After a year off due to renovations and construction work, the Juneau Christian Center is ready to celebrate the 34th Annual Singing Christmas Tree.

The free Christmas concerts begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7, 8, 9 and 10 at the Juneau Christian Center at 8001 Glacier Highway.

A 47-person choir will perform familiar Christmas carols and songs. Honey Bee Anderson directs the music, with some songs featuring the entire choir and others featuring a worship team and soloists. The Rev. Mike Rose and his daughter-in-law Heather Rose will serve as narrators.

Complimentary seating tickets for all four shows are available at Hearthside Books and the Juneau Christian Center.
