The Canvas to hold East Indian dinner auction on Dec. 8

JUNEAU - The Canvas Community Art Studio & Gallery will host an authentic East Indian dinner and art auction on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8.

The silent art auction, with a no-host bar, begins at 6 p.m. Dinner follows at 7.

Tickets are $50 per person, and credit cards will be accepted in person or over the phone.

Proceeds will help REACH finish the new space's pottery studio and pie kitchen.

Perseverance Theatreoffers Shakespeare class

JUNEAU - Perseverance Theatre will be offering a class in the art of speaking Shakespeare taught by British theater veteran Keith Baxter.

The class will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10 at the Hendrickson Building, University of Alaska, Southeast. The class costs $20.

Baxter is in Juneau to direct the theater's latest production, "Black Comedy" by Peter Schaffer, which previews at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 14. Those shows are pay-as-you-can.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and closes on Jan. 13.

Baxter has worked with such theater legends as John Gielgud, Orson Welles, Elizabeth Taylor, and Hal Holbrook, among others. He brings experience and training as the class works through some of the most poetic and evocative verse in the English language. The class will give Juneau artists the opportunity to work with a master of the craft.

Crafting group to sellwares through December

JUNEAU - A group of Juneau artists called the Craft Addicts will sell its contemporary wares from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays throughout December at Paradise Café.

The group also will be selling crafts at the café from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, during Gallery Walk.

Browse through unique prints, immaculate boxes, scrumptious cupcakes, artful coffee mugs, never-before-seen bookmarks, quilted cup cozies and super-warm beanies, all while sipping coffee.
