Juneau Dance Unlimited names new director, board

JUNEAU - Juneau Dance Unlimited elected a new board of directors at its annual meeting, Saturday, Oct. 6.

The new directors are Harriet Culver, Jeff Duverney and Michaela Moore. The officers are Troy Wilson, president; Amy Perov, vice president; and Brad Hall, secretary.

Gail Ford is the dance studio's new executive director. Ford has more than 25 years of nonprofit experience and is a longtime community volunteer.

State museum seeks visual artists for 2008-09

JUNEAU - The Alaska State Museum is looking for artists worthy of solo exhibitions in the 2008-09 season.

Applications and submission materials are due Nov. 30. The review is open to all Alaska artists who have not had a solo exhibition at the museum within the last six years.

Interested artists need to fill out a form available at the museum or at www.museums.state.ak.us, and submit 10 high-quality images on slides or on a CD. No original artwork will be accepted.

Artists also should submit an exhibition history listing previous shows, awards, commissions, collections and education.

A committee will select six to eight artists. Finalists will be announced Jan. 2.

Last Frontier Theatre Conference announces call for plays

VALDEZ - The Last Frontier Theatre Conference has released its call for plays for the 2008 Play Lab, June 14-21 in Valdez.

Selected plays receive staged readings at the conference, with public and private feedback sessions led by theater professionals.

The 2008 Play Lab will feature plays from 20 minutes to two hours in length. Accepted writers also will have an additional opportunity to present their work in the 10-page Play Slam and in the late-night Fringe Festival.

Plays must be received by Feb. 1, 2008. Submissions may not have received a professional production, although readings and amateur productions are acceptable. No musicals are accepted. Only one submission will be accepted per author.

SAIL/ORCA to sponsor'Door to Door' showings

JUNEAU - Southeast Alaska Independent Living/Outdoor Recreation and Community Access is sponsoring two free showings of "Door to Door" as part of Disability Awareness Month.

The movie stars William H. Macy as man with cerebral palsy who wants to become a salesman.

The shows start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Gold Town Nickelodeon, and 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Back Room at the Silverbow Inn.
