New England Barn Dance Saturday at Centennial Hall

JUNEAU - Dance caller Odette Foster will play the latest New England Barn Dance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Centennial Hall.

Instruction begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets costs $8 general admission, $7 for members of the Alaska Folk Festival and Juneau International Folk Dancers, and $5 for seniors and students.

All dances will be taught, and beginners are welcome. No partners are necessary. Call 586-1787 for more information.

Salsa Borealis to play free show at Centennial Hall

JUNEAU - Salsa Borealis will play a free, all-ages dance on Friday, Oct. 12, at Centennial Hall.

The event is part of the monthly dance series, but is also a celebration of Tim Adair and Kathy Turley's marriage. The public is invited. There's no need to know the bride and groom.

There will be a no-host bar for those over 21.

The party starts at 7:30 p.m. with waltz and tango DJ tunes. Heather Haugland and Antonio Diaz will lead a Cuban salsa lesson from 8:30 to 9.

Salsa Borealis should begin playing at 9.

In other salsa news, Jaded will celebrate National Latino AIDS Awareness Day with food and giveaways on Saturday.

'Tosca' continues through weekend at Twisted Fish

JUNEAU - The Juneau Lyric Opera's production of "Tosca" continues this weekend, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13, at the Twisted Fish restaurant.

A no-host bar and snacks will be available.

Tickets cost $17.50 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and are available at Hearthside Books.

The opera will be sung in Italian with projected English subtitles.
