Gadget tidbits

Courtesy of Plantronics
Good fit: The Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth headset has a comfortable fit, easy-to-use controls and solid performance, all at a good price. Just try to ignore the weird style.
Voyager 520

We can't say we're too thrilled with the style of this Bluetooth headset, but it's the fit and comfort that count. And that's where that the Voyager 520 shines.

Editors' rating: 8.0, excellent

The good: The Plantronics Voyager 520 is a very comfortable and lightweight Bluetooth headset with excellent call quality. It's also quite affordable.

The bad: The Plantronics Voyager 520 looks a tad dull, and its volume toggle was a little tricky to use.

The bottom line: The Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth headset has a comfortable fit, easy-to-use controls and solid performance, all at a good price.

Vudu

It has its share of issues and caveats, but the easy-to-use Vudu may well be the closest thing to a video store in a box that we've seen to date.

Editors' rating: 7.7, very good

The good: Set-top box that plays Internet-delivered movies on your TV; solid movie selection includes major Hollywood studio titles in the same week they hit DVD; no monthly fees; very good video and audio quality; no waiting - movies start immediately; excellent onscreen interface and scroll-wheel remote; simple setup and configuration.

The bad: Can't stream media from networked PCs; can't transfer movies to portable devices for on-the-go viewing; no built-in Wi-Fi; rentals limited to 24-hour viewing period; impressive selection of titles still pales compared to the tens of thousands available from Netflix and Blockbuster; won't work with infrared universal remotes.

The bottom line: Steering clear of many of the pitfalls that sapped past video-on-demand broadband solutions, Vudu delivers the closest thing to "Netflix in a box" that we've seen to date.
