'Trashin' Fashion' returnsOct. 13 at JDHS
JUNEAU - Juneau-Douglas High School will hold its second annual "Trashin' Fashion Show" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the school.
The event, in which students construct outfits out of duct tape and trash bags, is a fundraiser for the school's literary magazine, Ego.
Seventeen designers will compete for three prizes this year.
J-D Little Theatre seeks one-act scripts for playwright project
JUNEAU - Juneau Douglas Little Theatre is proud to announce the launch of the Juneau Playwright Project.
The project was created in response to the large number of Juneau-based writers seeking to create new and original works.
The theater is soliciting one-act scripts from aspiring and accomplished local playwrights. Every script will be judged by a blind panel and the two winning playwrights will receive $250 cash and a fully staged production of their scripts.
Submissions are due no later than 4 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council office, 350 Whittier St.

The project is sponsored by Rainbow Foods and PolarSounds Entertainment, with additional support from the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council and the City and Borough of Juneau.
Visitor center to holdphoto workshop Sunday
JUNEAU - Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center will host a free photography workshop from 1-3:30 pm., Sunday, Oct. 14 in its auditorium.
Professional photographers Robert Armstrong and Jeff Gnass will lead the informal workshop. Seating is limited.
The workshop will be a question and answer format for advanced beginners and intermediate level photographers. Digital photography information will be emphasized.

Tuvan throat singers to play Centennial Hall Oct. 26
JUNEAU - Huun-Huur-Tu, a group of throat singers from the republic of Tuva, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Centennial Hall.
The show will be the first in the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council's 35th season.
Tickets cost $22 for general admission, $18 for students and seniors, $10 for kids and are available at Rainy Day Books, Hearthside Books or the arts council's office. There's a 15 percent discount for groups of five or more, if tickets are purchased directly from the arts council.
Huun-Huur-Tu will lead a throat-singing workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, the arts council's gallery at the former National Guard Armory at 350 Whittier St. Admission is $40. To register, call the arts council at 586-ARTS.
