JDHS concert season begins Oct. 9, 11 at 7 p.m.

JUNEAU - The Juneau-Douglas High School concert season will begin with 7 p.m. performances on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 11, in the high school auditorium.

Performances are free and open to the public.

The Tuesday concert features the jazz, intermediate and concert bands, and the wind ensemble.

The Thursday performance features the jazz, treble, men's and concert choirs, and the string and chamber orchestras.

Northwest Folklife Festival now accepting applications

JUNEAU - Performer applications are now being accepted for the 2008 Northwest Folklife Festival, one of the largest free community arts festivals in the country.

Download and print a PDF version from the Web site (www.nwfolklife.org) by clicking the link "Performers: Download Application" or call (206) 684-6300 to reach the Folklife office.

All applications must be completed online or postmarked by Nov. 1.

Jazz & Classics needs new executive director

JUNEAU - Juneau Jazz & Classics is seeking a new executive director to oversee the 22-year-old, 10-day music festival.

Six-year director Pam Johansen has resigned, effective Oct. 26, to accept a new job.

Qualified applicants should have the ability to plan a variety of events simultaneously; manage and write grants; negotiate contracts; use sound financial practices; prepare budgets; raise funds; market events; coordinate numerous volunteers and more.

JAHC seeks Mongolianthroat-singing enthusiasts

JUNEAU - Those interested in attending a Mongolian throat-singing workshop for adults should contact the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council at 586-2787.

The Huun Huur Tur group may offer such a class, provided enough people are interested in a mid-day Saturday session on Oct. 27.

The cost would be $40 for the hour and would include a group introduction followed by small-group work.
