Gadget tidbits

Charging up while on the Move: The InFlight Power charger uses the audio out jack on airplanes, buses and trains as a power source to recharge various media devices.
LG VX8550 CHOCOLATE

One of Verizon Wireless's most popular cell phones, the LG VX8550 Chocolate, has a new look. It's both lighter and slimmer at ⅔-inch thick but still has a slide-open case to reveal the keypad.

New to the phone is a navigation wheel (similar to an iPod) with a trace motion light that illuminates when turned. The light can also flash when there is an incoming call.

The wheel makes it easier to navigate through the phone functions, music and videos. Four pre-sets can be used on the wheel as shortcuts to functions the user chooses.

A MicroSD memory port holds cards up to 4GB to store music, pictures and video.

Other key features include a 1.3megapixel camera and camcorder, phonebook for 1,000 contacts where each contact can have up to five numbers and two e-mail addresses.

The standard battery gives up to 250 minutes of usage time or up to 350 hours of standby time.

Price: Verizon Wireless Stores for $179.99 with a new 2-year agreement.

An optional battery boost is included (2 AAA batteries) to charge the devices almost anywhere.

Devices it charges includes iPods, BlackBerrys, and some cell phones and game players.

Price: $34.99 for the standard charger, $44.99 for the charger with iPod and BlackBerry tips.
