Critical Mass ride scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 28
JUNEAU - The University of Alaska Southeast Bike Club will hold a community-wide Critical Mass ride at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
The ride promotes cyclists' rights on the road and in city planning, as well as advocating community awareness.
The ride starts at 6 p.m. in front of Juneau-Douglas High School and ends with snacks and beverages in front of the Silverbow Inn at about 6:30 p.m.
A bicycle is required and a helmet recommended.

Northern Lights seeks new director
JUNEAU - Northern Lights Junior Theatre is looking for people to direct one or more short plays this winter, spring and/or summer.
Founder and artistic director J. Althea is moving permanently to California.
Directing experience is not required, but a performance background would be helpful. Mentoring is available.

City museum begins seventh season of free winter admission
JUNEAU - The Juneau-Douglas City Museum will offer free winter admission for a seventh season.
Free winter admission is made possible when an individual or organization sponsors the estimated admission cost from October through April. The sponsorship allows the museum to waive the $4 adult admission fee to visitors.
This year's sponsors are:
October - Friends of the Gastineau Channel Historical Society and the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
November - a friend of the museum.
December - Robert and Michelle Storer.
January - a friend of the museum.
February -The Pioneer Book Committee.
March and April - Robert and Michelle Storer.

Community art studio to host 'Dance for Pie' fundraiser
JUNEAU - The Canvas Community Art Studio will hold a "Dance for Pie" fundraiser from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
The events - at the tail end of the day's First Friday festivities - include pie and other Pie in the Sky treats, music, dancing, a pie walk, a dessert auction and performances by Rumbalaska.
The night will raise money for the space's upcoming $100,000 renovation. The Canvas will soon house a ceramics studio and a kitchen for Pie in the Sky.
Tickets cost $15 to $25 on a sliding scale and can be bought at The Canvas, 223 Seward St., or Pie in the Sky, in the Merchants Wharf.
