Rosenthal, Grande to present 'Ferdinand the Bull'
JUNEAU - Violinist Linda Rosenthal and narrator MJ Grande will present "The Story of Ferdinand the Bull" at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the downtown public library.
Rosenthal performs throughout North America, Europe and Asia in recitals as a soloist and a chamber musician. She is the art director for Juneau Jazz & Classics and a professor of music at the University of Alaska Southeast.
Rosenthal also tours with "Strings & Stories," a dynamic pairing of violin and theater for audiences of all ages. She created and premiered the series in 1995 for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
The "Story of Ferdinand," based on the classic 1936 book by Munro Leaf, is one of the pieces.
Autumn Festival set for Sept. 22 at Marine Park
JUNEAU - Tables for the annual Autumn Festival street fair are still available. They cost $40, and each will be covered.
The festival will run from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Marine Park downtown.

Hearthside to celebrate Peluso's book on Sunday
JUNEAU - Hearthside Books will celebrate the publication of Juneau author Beth Peluso's new children's book "The Charcoal Forest: How Fire Helps Animals and Plants" from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Nugget Mall.
"The Charcoal Forest" explores the new habitat created by fire. Focusing on the northern Rocky Mountains of the United States and Canada, the book describes 20 species of animals and plants that contribute to the reclamation and renewal of the charcoal forest.
Peluso received her bachelor's degree in English with a minor in art. She has a master's in environmental studies from the University of Montana with an emphasis in natural history writing and illustration.
She has worked as an editor, taught young children and done scientific illustration. This is her first children's book.
Juneau groups partner for Sept. 15 beach cleanup
JUNEAU - Turning the Tides, the Juneau Watershed Partnership and the Marine Conservation Alliance Foundation are teaming with the Alaskan Brewing Co. to clean Juneau beaches on International Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, Sept. 15.
Residents are invited to join. The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers can pick up trash bags, rubber gloves, data cards and instructions at 9 from the Alaskan & Proud parking lot or in front of the University of Alaska Southeast library.
The cleanup will be followed by a noon "No-Trash-Bash" at the Sandy Beach shelter at noon.
The group is asking the general public to cleanup Sandy Beach and Eagle Beach.
