Four day DanceFest, HavanaNRG tickets on sale

JUNEAU - The second annual DanceFest will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 3 at Centennial Hall. The festival is four days of dance classes, dance performances, and live music - including guest dance band Havana NRG, an 8-piece Cuban band based in Texas.

Guest instructors from Miami, Portland, Anchorage and Fairbanks will teach classes like Argentine Tango, Hustle, Swing, Lindy-Hop, Salsa and Afro-Cuban. Local instructors will teach hip-hop, belly dance, cha cha, line dance, contra dance, Tlingit dance, waltz and more.

In advance, they cost $15 for adults, or $10 for students and seniors. At the door, they're $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors.

Tickets for hip-hop gig featuring Zion I/Grouch still available

JUNEAU - Tickets are still available for the Thursday, Sept. 6 hip-hop extravaganza at Marlintini's Lounge.

The show includes Zion I, The Grouch, Amp Live, Chali 2na, Jennifer Johns, Phonetic and DJ AstronoMAR.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and available at Marlintini's, Capital Records and www.groovetickets.com.

Juneau Student Symphony to hold auditions for fall concert

JUNEAU - The Juneau Student Symphony is scheduling auditions for its fall concert for musicians of all ages who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello or bass.

This concert will feature violin soloist Colin Zheng and the Alaska Youth Choir.

Call conductor Rick Trostel at 723-3546 any time before Sept. 10 for an appointment.

The symphony also will hold exploratory orchestra reading sessions from 6-8 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 3 and 10, at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
