Second annual DanceFest schedule now online

JUNEAU - Organizers of the second annual DanceFest, planned for Aug. 31-Sept. 3 at Centennial Hall, have posted the event's schedule at www.juneaudancefest.org.

The four-day festival includes dances performances in rueda, hip-hop, belly dances, salsa, Afro-Cuban, hustle, tango, lindy hop and salsa/hip-hop. The Bobb Family Band will play Friday night; Havana NRG will perform Saturday; and BRAVEMonkey will play Sunday.

Guest instructors include Pablo and Alicia Repun; Ekaterina Kuznetsova; Rachel Lidskog; Felix Bambury Webbe; Bruce Botelho; Don and Vickie Carney; Odette Foster; Heather Haugland and Antonio Diaz; Maren Thomas; Dan and Lorinda Kassner; and Shane Wirtz.

Housing for nine is still needed for the guest band - Havana NRG - as well as a few of the out-of-town guest instructors. Contact Haugland at salsa@juneaumusic.com with any leads.

If one would like to volunteer for the festival, please e-mail Alicja Gorska at akgorska@hotmail.com. Volunteers are needed to work the registration table, take tickets and drive the band around, among other duties.

Marlintini's Lounge to hosthip-hop show on Sept. 6

JUNEAU - Zion I & The Grouch, Chali 2na and Jennifer Johns will play Marlintini's Lounge on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 6.

It's the latest show by the Girdwood-based Synapse Productions, the crew responsible for bringing Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.

Tickets are$25 and will be on sale at Marlintini's, Capital Records and groovetickets.com.

The tour will continue to Anchorage, for a 21-and-over show Friday, Sept. 7, at the Anchor; and an all-ages show Saturday, Sept. 8, at The Millenium.

Latest Cross Sound festival planned for Sept. 1 and 3

JUNEAU - The latest CrossSound festival, "Fault Lines," is set for Sept. 1 and 3 in Juneau, as well as Aug. 31 in Sitka and Sept. 2 in Haines.

The Saturday, Sept. 1, performance, "Fault Lines", starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Northern Light United Church.

A SoloSoundSeries recital begins at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at Northern Light.

Swing dance set for monthly social at Centennial Hall

JUNEAU - Alysia McLain will teach a swing lesson during the monthly social dance at Centennial Hall, 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.

Cost is $5 for all ages.

Register for DanceFest early - $50 for adults, $40 for students and seniors - and save $10 off the normal cost.
