Mom blogs worth checking out
Mom blogs are everywhere. But while most feature one mom detailing the ins and outs of her life, one collaborative blog is turning into a motherhood empire.
The Silicon Valley Moms Group started with two moms in the Bay area and now is a four-city blog world with dozens of contributors and thousands of subscribers across the country.
The blog (http://www.svmoms.com/) features more than 20 mothers who write about "being CEOs at work and CFOs at home, where houses are expensive, kids love sushi and have web businesses, and moms are too busy chauffeuring kids to raise a sword in the mommywars."
But the empire doesn't stop there. The group has grown to include Chicago Moms, D.C. Metro Moms and New York City Moms.
Ultimately, each of the blogs is worth checking out whether or not you live in the network cities.
The Web has democratized a lot of things since its birth, including the learning previously available only with a hefty tuition check. College site Education Portal has a handy list of the colleges that offer the most comprehensive course material online, including open-course trailblazers like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tufts University, and programs like Stanford's lecture podcasts on iTunes U. You can't get a sheepskin for free, but you can further your knowledge and training for less than even the cost of a book.
