USER AGREEMENT

SUMMARIZTION OF POLICIES (complete explanation at bottom):

1. Users are fully responsible for their posted content.
2. Posts that are libelous, obscene or that violate a law will be removed.
3. The Juneau Empire, Juneauempire.com and Morris Communications is not responsible for the content posted.
4. Discussion areas and blogs are for non-commercial use only.
5. Discussion areas and blogs are for text only.
6. Juneauempire.com does not vouch for information posted nor its reliability.
7. Users agree that posts are property of Juneauempire.com.
8. Any posts with obscenities or words alluding to such will be deleted.
9. Content must be original and unique to the user and associated with the content of the article to which it is attached.

ACTIONS:

Should any post violate the above policies, JuneauEmpire.com reserves the right to delete a post, ban a user or remove commenting threads completely and without warning.

USER MODERATION:

Any reader logged into JuneaEmpire.com has the ability to moderate other users comments by clicking the yellow yield button. Should that button be selected three times by different users, the comment will be hidden on the page.

Additionally, readers can rate comments by clicking the "plus" or "minus" buttons in the commenting area. Rating comments will not hide them from view.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:

In certain instances JuneauEmpire.com and it's editorial staff will remove comments from articles out of respect for those involved. This will be done to articles with subject matter that is deemed highly controversial or of a sensitive nature. This decision is made to not only protect those involved but also to protect the Juneau Empire and it's employees.

REMOVAL OF A THREAD:

Should any commenting thread in its entirety violate any of the above guidelines, we deem the comments out of line with the topic of the article, external material becomes the target of the conversation or the commenting thread becomes volatile JuneauEmpire.com reserves the right to remove it completely from any story at any time without explanation.

We encourage you to analyze, comment on and even challenge the Juneau Empire's articles, blogs, reviews and multimedia features. It is our hope that you'll take this opportunity to interact with leaders in our community, with the journalists, editors and management of The Juneau Empire and with other juneauempire.com users.

In order to keep these experiences enjoyable and interesting for all of our users, we ask that you follow the rules outlined below. By participating through the submission of comments on articles, blog questions, reviews and/or multimedia, such as Spotted® features, you are consenting to the following rules:

1. You agree that you are fully responsible for the content that you post and content of the post must be unique to you. Posts that contain content that violates a copyright, trademark, patent or other intellectual property right of any third party will be removed.

As a condition to using Services, you are required to register with the Juneau Empire and select a password and screen name ("user ID"). You shall provide the Juneau Empire with accurate, complete, and updated registration information. Failure to do so shall constitute a breach of the Terms of Use, which may result in immediate termination of your Juneau Empire account. You may not (1) select or use as a Juneau Empire User ID a name of another person with the intent to impersonate that person; (2) use as the Juneau Empire User ID a name subject to any rights of a person other than you without appropriate authorization; or (3) use as a Juneau Empire User ID a name that is otherwise offensive, vulgar or obscene. The Juneau Empire reserves the right to refuse registration of, or cancel a Juneau Empire User ID at its discretion. You shall be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your Juneauempire.com password."

Services are available only to individuals who are at least 13 years old. If you do not qualify, do not attempt to register for use of our services.

2. You may not post content that is libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, that violates a third party's right to privacy, that otherwise violates any applicable local, state, national or international law, or that is otherwise inappropriate.

You will indemnify Juneau Empire and Company, its employees, agents, and affiliates from any and all claims and/or damages (including but not limited to reasonable attorneys' fees) resulting from any claim brought by any third party relating to content you have posted. You may not post content that degrades others on the basis of gender, race, class, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual preference, disability or other classification. Slang and other language intended to intimidate or to incite violence will not be tolerated. Furthermore, you may not impersonate others. You may not upload, post, transmit, share, store or otherwise make publicly available on the Site any private information of any third party, including, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers and credit card numbers.

3. You understand and agree that Juneauempire.com is not responsible for any content posted by third parties. You further understand that, on the unmediated discussion areas and blogs, Juneauempire.com does not monitor the content posted. Nevertheless, Juneauempire.com may monitor any user-generated content as it chooses and reserves the right to remove, edit or otherwise alter content that it deems inappropriate for any reason whatever without consent. We further reserve the right, on our sole discretion, to remove a user's privilege to post content on our site.

4. You understand and agree that the discussion areas and blogs are to be used only for non-commercial purposes. You may not solicit funds, promote commercial entities or otherwise engage in commercial activity in our discussion areas and blogs.

5. The discussion areas and blogs are for text only. Use of graphics and audio is not appropriate.

6. You acknowledge and agree that any information obtained through the discussion areas and blogs is obtained at your own risk. Juneauempire.com is not in any manner endorsing the content of the discussion areas and blogs and does not vouch for its reliability.

7. For any content that you post, you grant Juneauempire.com full permission of its use now and in any form hereafter. This includes but is not limited to the reproduction, modification, adaption, distribution and translation in publications, creative works, in whole or in part, world-wide, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed.

8. Vulgarity - any swear words that allude to the original may not be used.
